Attorney-at-Law Bert Samuels is calling for urgent government intervention after music producer Ewan Pryce was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possession of imitation firearms.
Mr.Samuels argued that Jamaica’s Firearms Act unfairly treats fake guns the same as illegal real firearms, creating what he called a “travesty of justice.”
He said Parliament removed judicial discretion by imposing mandatory minimum sentences.
Attorney Samuels also urged the government and the Governor-General to consider pardoning Pryce.
The case has sparked concern in Jamaica’s entertainment industry, where replica guns are commonly used as props in music videos and films.
