At least eight people were killed in road crashes in the country over the Easter holiday.

Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, said three of the deaths occurred yesterday.

Among the latest victims is a 36-year-old medical doctor of Nigerian descent, Ubong Etti.

Police say at about 5:50 A.M., Etti and three other Nigerian and Ghanaian doctors were travelling in a Blue Honda Fit motorcar from Kingston towards Annotto Bay, when upon reaching a section of the Castleton roadway in St. Mary, the driver swerved to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle.

Further reports are that the vehicle in which Etti was a passenger, hit an embankment and went over a precipice.

The police and fire brigade were alerted and all four occupants were transported to hospital, where Etti was pronounced dead and the others treated.
