Aston Villa and Serie A giants Roma have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Jamaican winger Leon Bailey.
According to reports from The Athletic, the deal could be worth up to £21.6 million after several days of negotiations. Bailey is expected to join Roma initially on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.
Under the terms, Roma will pay Aston Villa a loan fee of around £2.6 million and cover Bailey’s wages in full for the loan period. The Italian club also has the option to make the move permanent for £19 million.
Earlier talks had explored an obligation to buy, but both clubs agreed on an optional clause, following extended negotiations.
Bailey is reportedly now in Rome and is scheduled to undergo a medical today (Tues).
