Iconic R&B and neo-soul singer-songwriter Angie Stone tragically passed away over the weekend (March 1), at the age of 63.
The “No More Rain” singer was involved in a devastating car accident near Montgomery, Alabama, while en route to Atlanta after performing in Mobile.
According to reports, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van carrying Stone and her band overturned and was struck by an 18-wheeler truck, resulting in her untimely death.
Born in 1961 in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone’s musical journey began in the late 1970s as a member of the groundbreaking hip-hop trio, The Sequence.
Their 1979 hit "Funk You Up" became one of the first rap songs by a female group, marking a significant milestone in hip-hop history.
After The Sequence disbanded, Stone went on to achieve solo success with her 1999 debut album Black Diamond, which featured the hit "No More Rain (In This Cloud)."
Over the years, she released several acclaimed albums, including Mahogany Soul (2001) and Stone Love (2004), earning three Grammy nominations and collaborating with legends such as Prince, Snoop Dogg, and Anthony Hamilton.
Stone's contributions to music, especially in the R&B and neo-soul genres, have left an indelible mark on the industry.
