The first named storm of the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed.

Subtropical storm Ana formed earlier today (Sat).

This now marks the seventh year in a row, in which at least one named storm has formed, prior to the start of Atlantic Hurricane Season which officially begins June 1.

A subtropical storm has similar characteristics of a tropical storm, but is not considered fully tropical, because it does not depend on warm water temperatures to fuel its development.

The Met Service says Ana has formed just northeast of Bermuda.

It is not a threat to Jamaica.

Meanwhile, the Met Service says a trough is across Jamaica.

It is expected to remain across the island over the next few days.
