American, French Nationals Test Positive for Hantavirus After Leaving MV Hondius

Health authorities say an American and a French national who left the cruise ship MV Hondius have tested positive for hantavirus after being repatriated to their home countries.

The US said a second American on the same flight showed mild symptoms, with all passengers transported in biocontainment units as a precaution.

French officials confirmed a woman is isolating in Paris, with her condition worsening and 22 contacts already traced.

The outbreak has been linked to the ship in Spain’s Canary Islands, where three passengers have died and dozens more are still being monitored or repatriated.
