Over the weekend, Amazon Prime was being dragged by the internet. Let's talk about it!
The backlash started when fans noticed that guns had been removed from the artwork of James Bond's promotional poster on its UK platform.
Yesterday (October 5) was James Bond Day, and ahead of the celebration, Amazon Prime, jumping on the 007 train, removed all the guns from posters that included Dr. No, GoldenEye, A View to a Kill, and Spectre.
In some edits, Roger Moore's arms were lengthened to crop out his gun, while Daniel Craig's weapon was cropped, but his holster was still visible in the photos, staring at us. Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan's guns were simply erased, which made their hands look awkward.
Fans were quick to criticize the edits, calling the censorship outright "weird" and worrying. Some stated that Bond should never look bland, and were thoroughly confused by the move.
Movie fans started to air their concerns about the Bond Franchise, fearing that Amazon might ruin the tone of future Bond films.
Amazon did not comment on the backlash; instead, they quietly replaced the poster with a still from the actual films, none showcasing Bond with a gun though.
Denis Villeneuve (Dune director) is directing the 26th Bond movie under Amazon and MGM Studios.
The last Bond film was No Time to Die in 2021, and starred Daniel Craig.
