It is reported that on Thursday actor and producer Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun, leaving one crew member dead and another injured on a New Mexico film set for the 19th Century western, “Rust”.

According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, the film’s director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed, and director Joel Souza, 48, was injured when Baldwin discharged the stage firearm. Reports say that the 63-year-old actor was in tears outside of the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

In a released statement, Alec said, “there are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, a mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours”. He went on to say, “I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred. I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family”. He ended by saying, “My heart is broken for her husband, their son and all who knew and loved Halyna”.

An investigation into what happened is underway.
