From what was to be a star-studded event to a financial disaster!
The One Caribbean Music Festival ended in controversy over the weekend, after Dancehall mogul, Vybz Kartel and several top acts pulled out, leaving the show's promoter, Odane Anderson, in financial turmoil.
Anderson says he borrowed heavily to fund the show and now faces mounting debt due to his inability to pay off his debt.
Kartel was paid US$950,000 of a US$1.35 million deal but withdrew last minute, citing contractual issues.
Anderson blamed the Trinidadian government restrictions in payments not being settled on time but said that Kartel should’ve pulled out sooner. “My life is in danger because of the money I owe,” the promoter told Trinidad's Guardian Media.
The "Fever" artiste took to social media after pulling out of the event and claimed the promoter mishandled his itinerary, not the government.
Anderson revealed that despite offering a private jet hours before the show, his efforts failed!
