The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) of Guyana is urging dancehall star Vybz Kartel to issue a public apology to the Christian community for his controversial track Good Like Jesus. The call comes ahead of Kartel’s scheduled performance in Guyana on May 24, 2025.
In a statement, the ERC also noted ongoing concerns over religiously insensitive lyrics from both Kartel and fellow artiste Baby Skello, whose songs have sparked backlash from Christian and Hindu groups.
According to Staebrok News, the statement said "The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) wishes to provide an update on two ongoing matters involving religiously insensitive content in separate songs by the artistes Vybz Kartel and Baby Skello, which have been deemed offensive to the Christian and Hindu communities, respectively...The ERC calls on Vybz Kartel to issue a public apology to the people of Guyana, particularly the Christian community".
The commission reached out to concert organizers Hits and Jams Entertainment to address the matter, but says it has yet to receive a response.
