Drake’s Label Wants His Revised ‘Not Like Us’ Lawsuit Dismissed

Share

Universal Music Group UMG has moved to dismiss Drake’s amended defamation lawsuit over Kendrick Lamar’s diss track 'Not Like Us', claiming the song's lyrics are protected as “non-actionable opinion and rhetorical hyperbole,” not factual statements.

Drake recently updated his lawsuit to include new claims targeting Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance in February.

In a legal memorandum filed on May 7, UMG asked the court to throw out the amended complaint with prejudice, preventing it from being re-filed.

UMG’s filing dismissed the case as an effort by Drake to "save face" following his failed lyrical feud with Lamar, calling the new allegations “astonishing.”

Despite the legal dispute, a UMG spokesperson reaffirmed the label's dedication to supporting Drake’s career and the creative freedom of all its artists—including Drake himself.
