The official cause of death for beloved actress Michelle Trachtenberg, best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, has been revealed.
According to the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office, Trachtenberg, 39, passed away from natural causes stemming from complications related to diabetes. The actress was discovered "unconscious and unresponsive" in her New York City apartment on February 26.
While an autopsy was not performed, officials confirmed that toxicology tests established diabetes complications as the official cause of death.
Trachtenberg first captured audiences' hearts as Dawn Summers, Buffy’s younger sister, in the cult hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She later reinvented herself on screen as Georgina Sparks, the cunning and unforgettable socialite in the acclaimed teen drama Gossip Girl.
Her passing leaves fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a bright talent gone too soon.
