Rapper Tay-K, best known for his breakout hit “The Race,” has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for the 2017 murder of San Antonio photographer Mark Anthony Saldívar.
The 24-year-old artist, born Taymor McIntyre, was already serving 55 years for the 2016 killing of Ethan Walker in Tarrant County, Texas — a crime that sparked his now-infamous run from the law and inspired “The Race.”
Prosecutors say while on the run for that first murder, Tay-K was involved in the robbery and fatal shooting of Saldívar, whose body was found outside a Chick-fil-A on April 23, 2017.
After eight hours of deliberation, a jury found him guilty of murder but cleared him of capital murder, sparing him a mandatory life sentence without parole.
During sentencing, emotional testimony from both families shed light on Tay-K’s troubled upbringing, including claims of childhood abuse and time in foster care.
