The late R&B legend Aaliyah was truly ‘One In A Million’ and would have turned 46 today (January 16). Her legacy continues to live on, and ever so often we get reminders of her influence, ensuring that she is never forgotten.
Barbie has given fans major nostalgia by releasing an Aaliyah doll as a part of the limited-edition Barbie Signature Music Collector Series.
The Aaliyah doll is clad in her head-to-toe leather fit, sunglasses, and signature side part from the 1996 music video for One In A Million video and
As expected, as soon as the doll hit the market, it was almost instantly sold out. Fans can look forward to a restock at Target on January 26th.
Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, who collaborated with the Barbie design team to bring the doll to life, stated, "I can vividly remember my sister playing with her favorite Barbie dolls for hours when we were kids. She would make them sing, dance and perform little concerts. It's clear to me now that she was imagining dreams that would eventually become reality when she embarked on a career in entertainment at just fifteen years old. Inspiring confidence, belief in yourself and embracing who you truly are is the essence of Barbie. My sister would be ecstatic to see her legacy celebrated this way, empowering fans to dream big and believe they can be anything that their hearts desire”.
Aaliyah’s life was cut short in 2001 when she died in a plane crash at the age of 22.
