Senior police detectives have confirmed the apprehension of the main suspect in the murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle. The arrest occurred on Wednesday evening, hours after the suspect abandoned her motor car as authorities closed in on his whereabouts.
The suspect was found hiding in dense foliage near the area in St Catherine where the vehicle, bearing licence plate number BG 777, had been ditched earlier that morning.
Police sources revealed that the suspect had been spotted driving Gayle's car in Gregory Park, St Catherine, on Tuesday just hours after her body was discovered at her residence in Caymanas Country Club Estate, Phase One, in the parish.
According to investigators, when questioned about the car, the suspect allegedly claimed he had rented the vehicle. Authorities, however, have not yet released the suspect’s name as investigations are ongoing.
