NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION BILL BEFORE PARLIAMENT AGAIN

The National Identification bill is once again before parliament, this time in a revised format, following changes in the wake of court action by the Opposition and concern by some interest groups.

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck opened the debate on the new National Identification and Registration Act, in the Lower House, yesterday.

He noted that the new bill features recommendations made by the joint select committee.

Mr. Chuck said the new bill, will among other things, ensure compliance with implementation and protection of, citizens personal information in accordance with international best practices.
