Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton is defending his ministry’s decision to allow adults to be inoculated with the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only shot approved for children.

Responding to questions at a press briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Tufton noted that the shots were approved for adults, given the expectation of a second shipment arriving in time to administer second doses.

While noting that a set date for the arrival of the second shipment has not yet been ascertained, the Health Minister assured that those awaiting their second dose could go up to six weeks between the shots, with no adverse impact.

Dr. Tufton said almost all of the 200,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccines that were shipped to Jamaica from the United States of America last month, have been used up.
