Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton, has confirmed that the Mu variant of Covid 19 is in Jamaica.
The Minister made the revelation while speaking in a live session on social media a short while ago.
Jamaica becomes the second country in the Caribbean to confirm the variant after it was discovered in St Vincent earlier this week.
The variant, the second to be identified after the Delta variant, was first identified in Colombia in January.
It is believed that this variant may make the vaccines and treatment less effective.
