Children‘s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison has called on Jamaicans to be more active participants in the process of protecting the nation‘s most vulnerable, especially children.

She noted that while legislation regarding child abuse may be available for the relevant authorities to enforce, it‘s the willingness of citizens to participate that will ensure accountability.

She was speaking against the background of criticism that agencies tasked with responding to cases of abuse are failing and many persons deem laws and policies to be ineffective.

Mrs. Gordon Harrison said policies are as strong as the people who make them work.
