The Integrity Commission has called for legislative amendments to the Integrity Commission Act 2017, to avoid a potential legal loop hole for corruption.

In its annual report tabled in parliament yesterday (July 6), the commission pointed out that the section relating to gifts to parliamentarians, or public officials from relatives, should be deleted.

It said, on the face of it, this sub-section can create a loop-hole, and is a potential corruption enabler.

The commission argued that it is conceivable that a relative of a parliamentarian or a public official could be used as a conduit for the exchange of an illicit benefit, designed to confer a benefit or an advantage to himself or another person.
