A State of Public Emergency (SOE) has been declared for Rockfort and East Kingston.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), this action follows a violent incident on Sunday night that disturbed the peace and safety of Rockfort residents, resulting in seven people being shot, five of whom lost their lives.

The SOE covers areas including Michael Manley Boulevard, South Camp Road, Vineyard Road, Diana Drive, Lexington Avenue, Deanery Road, Mountain View Avenue, and extends to the parish boundary between St. Andrew and St. Thomas.

The OPM stated that the government and security forces will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard residents and restore normalcy in East Kingston.
