Prime Minister Andrew Holness in his Labour Day message encouraged the nation to recognize and celebrate the contribution of the worker and the Labour Struggle to national development.

He says it is significant that Workers’ Week this year coincides with the execution of National Hero Sam Sharpe on May 23, 1832, which was precipitated by the 1831 Sam Sharpe War.

The Prime Minister also used the opportunity to recognize salute the nation’s workers who continue to display resilience and determination during this pandemic, those whose daily sacrifices have ultimately been responsible for the safety and security of our communities.

He spoke specifically of first responders, law enforcement, essential service providers and many others.

Mr Holness said these persons have all helped the country to navigate the worst of the pandemic and expressed his thanks on behalf of a grateful nation.
