Culture Minister Olivia Grange expressed sadness at the Colonel’s passing of leader of the Charles Town Maroons in Portland, Colonel Marcia Douglas.
Colonel Douglas died suddenly yesterday while on her way to the Seville Heritage expo held in St. Ann, in celebration of heritage week.
The Minister described the leader as a guiding force within the maroon community, who dedicated her life to safeguarding and promoting the rich heritage and traditions of the maroons.
Ms. Grange has extended condolences to Colonel Douglas’ family and has committed to advancing initiatives which she started, to celebrate and preserve Jamaica’s rich maroon heritage
