While many of us grew up listening to Anita Baker, the legendary singer asked fans to stop streaming and buying her music.

While responding to a fan on Twitter, Baker said, “Hello Sweetheart Thank You 4 Sending Me, Your Love. But, let’s not Advertise Spotify Streaming, which is, a Publicly Traded Company, with a 50 Million$ Valuation… but doesn’t pay Artists/Creators what their Worth.”

She also went on to say that she has outlived her artist contracts, but has yet to receive the masters that she alleges legally belong to her. “Miraculously… I have out-lived ALL, of my Artists Contracts They no longer “Own,” my Name & Likeness. And, by Law…30 yr old Mstrs are 2b Returned, 2 Me.” Anita continued, “Unfortunately, They’re gonna make me Fight 4 it. I’m Prepared. 2 do that. Please Don’t advertise/buy them. ABXO”

Anita ended her message with, “Love, HugZ & Convo, Always Welcome on Our TL… I Am Just, No longer Free Advertising, for the [music] Th[ie]ves in The Temple,” she tweeted.

Anita retired in 2017 and held a farewell concert in 2018. She’s also the recipient of 8 Grammy Awards.
