The list of nominees for the 2020 Latin Grammys has been announced and J Balvin is leading the awards this year with 13 nominations. Nicki Minaj has earned her first Latin Grammy nomination, for record of the year and song of the year with her collaboration with Karol G “Tusa” who got four nominations in total.
He’s up in categories like Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Reggaeton Performance, Best Urban Fusion Performance, Best Urban Music Album, Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song, and more. The Latin Academy announced Tuesday that Bad Bunny and Ozuna are behind Balvin with nine and eight nominations, respectively.
The Latin Recording Academy came under fire last year for their lack of Urban Latino artists being nominated. It sparked a movement on social media declaring “Without Reggaeton, there’s no Latin Grammys.” Junior President/CEO Gabriel Abaroa says that this year’s class of nominees is the result of a resilient and genuine awards process.”
The 21st annual Latin Grammy Awards will air live on Nov. 19 on Univision.
