A survey conducted by the Consumer Affairs Commission CAC has found low availability of sanitization and hygiene products in the retail trade.

The CAC has been monitoring the supply of the products since March, when Jamaica recorded its first case of COVID-19.

The agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Dolsie Allen, says 118 locations, including supermarkets and pharmacies, were visited.

The CAC surveyed 54 different products including disinfectants, hand sanitisers, antibacterial hand soaps, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, gloves and masks.

Mrs Allen told the Jamaica Information Service that availability was not high and it was just over 50 percent in most areas.

It was also discovered that prices varied.

The CAC is encouraging persons to shop around in order to get the products at the most competitive prices.
