Even though the pandemic still rages on, that didn’t stop MTV from putting on the 2020 Video Music Awards which happened live last night, virtually, across New York City. The show was hosted by Keke Palmer who is also the fist black woman to host the award show since 1987.

Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and BTS led the night, taking home four “Moon-people” each, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande both entered with nine nominations each. Gaga also took home the first MTV Tricon Award, along with artiste of the year and song of the year.

The Weeknd won video of the year for “Blinding Lights”, MTV also gave out new pandemic-era awards for best music video from home to Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.

Best Hip Hop went to Megan Thee Stallion, “Savage” and Doja Cat took home the moon man for best new artiste. The show saw performances from Miley Cyrus, DaBaby and Black Eyed Peas.
