Police say the suspect in the hit-and-run of an on duty police officer in St. James is now in police custody.

The man reportedly surrendered to the police, earlier today, in the presence of his attorney.

The critically injured Constable remains in hospital.

Head of the St James police, superintendent Eron Samuels, the police on Friday, were conducting a roadblock exercise along the Granville main road in the vicinity of St Johns when one officer signalled a white Toyota Probox to stop.

The constable was rescued from the precipice in an unconscious state.
