Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett is to meet with stakeholders this Friday to discuss issues relating to the impact of the novel coronavirus on the island’s tourism sector.

Concerns have been raised about the fall out from cruise ships either being turned away or delayed for hours, when they come to port, as well as apprehension by local partners such as tour operators, attractions and craft vendors.

Hoteliers and airlines have also been monitoring the situation.

The matter was raised in Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee yesterday, by Member of Parliament for South East St. Ann Lisa Hanna, as the House deliberated on the budget for the Tourism Ministry.

Mr. Bartlett said he and other officials in the ministry have been holding discussions with players in the travel and tourism sectors, to ensure that there is a protocol in place, to protect Jamaicans.
