Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says further action could be taken against the MSC Meraviglia Cruise Ship for failing to report a potential health threat prior to landing.

The ship, with over 4,000 passengers and over 1,000 crew members attempted to dock at the Ocho Rios port in St. Ann on Tuesday.

It was denied entry by health authorities after it was reported that a crew member had a cough, fever and associated muscle pains together with a travel history to a country of interest relating to the coronavirus.

Speaking at a press conference in Kingston yesterday, Dr. Tufton said there is a well established system in place for the protection of the country’s seaports as detailed in the Quarantine Act of 1951.

Dr. Tufton said by failing to make the report before landing, the MSC Meraviglia breached the protocol of the Act and could face further actions.
