Buju Banton is among a number of reggae stalwarts who will be recognized at this year’s staging of the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JARIA) Awards.
Other awardees include Dean Fraser, Shabba Ranks, Lady G, Orville “Xpressionz” Hall, Elise Kelly, Chevelle Franklin, and Philip “Fatis” Burrell – who will be honored posthumously. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 25 at the Little Theatre in St. Andrew.
President of JARIA, Ewan Thompson, said that the Awards, which is a signature event for Reggae Month, “aims to bring out magical moments in history”
JARIA is an independent, non- aligned, non-government, non-profit organization through which all stakeholders in the music industry can continuously collaborate with each other as one united independent collective interest.
Other activities organized by JARIA for Reggae Month are Reggae Wednesdays at Emancipation Park and Reggae University, which will be held every Thursday in collaboration with other institutions. The first Reggae University will be held on February 6 at the Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road, St. Andrew.
