A number of Jamaicans in the United States on a temporary work visa have complained of the circumstances under which they have been working and living. Some have experienced discrimination while others say they have been paid below the established rates for their services.
The Zee caught up wit one of the workers who sent videos of their deplorable living condition, some even staying in make shift rooms in basements next to a boiler room, which is in a state of disrepair. Speaking in a voice clip, he also said their employers kept a close eye on them as they worked.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said they are aware of the situation following a newspaper article last week and are making the necessary checks.
