American singer and actress Miley Cyrus is facing a lawsuit over her hit single “Flowers,” with claims that she ripped off Bruno Mars’ song “When I Was Your Man.”

The lawsuit, filed on Monday in a Los Angeles federal court, comes almost two years after fans began speculating about similarities between “Flowers” and “When I Was Your Man.”
Interestingly, the lawsuit wasn’t filed by Mars himself but by a music investment company called Tempo, which had purchased a share of the copyright to Mars’ single from one of its co-writers.
In the complaint, Tempo claims the two songs share “striking similarities” and argues that “Flowers” didn’t achieve its success solely on its own merit.
Fans have long speculated that the song’s subject was directed at Cyrus' ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth. Following the release of "Flowers," fans had speculated that the subject of the song was directed to Cyrus' ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth. An insider who spoke with Cosmopolitan Magazine said that Miley "is worried that she will have to reveal her inspiration for writing the song" and that "revealing it was specifically about Liam publicly and on record is very unsettling. At this point she is just seeing how this plays out and is hoping it gets tossed out before any of that becomes a real possibility."
Reports suggest Liam dedicated the Bruno Mars hit to Miley back in 2013, referenced the song throughout their relationship, and even played it at their 2018 wedding.
