Ten persons have been arrested and charged under the lottery scam act following simultaneous operations in Hanover this morning (Wed).

The Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime branch C-TOC, assisted by personnel from the Hanover police and members of the military, conducted the raids in sections of Phoenix Town and Santoy.

The police say this operation is the culmination of a two year investigation into the illicit lottery scam.

In 2017, C-TOC commenced an investigation into breaches of the law reform fraudulent transactions (special provisions) act in the western region of the island.

This led to the arrest and charge of 30-year-old Anita Brown in August 2018 for obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to obtain money by false pretence.

Her next court appearance is next Tuesday, May 28, in the Hanover parish court.

This morning, thirteen persons were taken into custody for breaches of the law reform fraudulent transactions act during operations conducted between 5:00am and 8:45am.

Ten of them were charged. They are 30-year-old bartender Travis Coates, 23-year-old plumber Kadeem Harvey, 23-year-old, call centre operator Khadija Harvey and 38-year-old labourer Marvin Sanderson, all of Santoy district.

Meanwhile 27-year-old labourer Thandeka Parkins, 25-year old boat operator Omarie Reid, 24-year-old carpenter Courtney Littlejohn and 49-year-old unemployed Sharon Kerr all of Phoenix Town were also charged under the act.

The other two charged are 27-year-old sales clerk Ronoy Reid, otherwise called ‘Manpee’ of John Crow Hill and 23-year-old Chris-Roy Reid, of Cave Valley, all of Hanover.

Police say two females and a male were processed, interviewed and later released.

The ten persons are scheduled to appear before the Hanover parish court on Tuesday, May 28.
