WHY ARE INTERNATIONAL REGGAE ACTS CHARTING MORE THAN LOCAL REGGAE ACTS?

Recording artiste Chris Martin has debuted atop the billboard this week with his latest album, ‘And Then’.
The album was released on May 3 and had a successful local launch where it was streamed live on a few local stations, both radio and television.
The 15 track compilation is his second album and the follow up to his 2017 ‘Big Deal’ project, that also charted on the Billboard and peaked at number 3.
We see a rise in chartings from local reggae acts, Koffee still holding firm in the top 10 position and this is her 7th week on the chart. Protoje has re-entered top 10 and legendary singer Rita Marley enters at number 3 with ‘The Lioness of Reggae’ project and Culture’s ‘The Nighthawk Recordings’ holding down number 4, this being its 4th week.
While our home-grown Reggae artistes are holding top spots on the Billboard charts, International Reggae acts such as Rebelution and Iration, seem to always have an album on the charts.
Rebelution’s ‘Free Reign’ album has spent 46 weeks on the chart and Iration’s album of the same name, 42 weeks. The only current project that has a longer stay than the above mentioned would be Shaggy & Sting’s ’44/876′ album, with 54 weeks.
Ziptocrats, tell us what you believe is the reason why international acts are charting more than local Reggae acts.
