Member of Parliament for north-west Clarendon, Richard Azan says a lack of funding is impeding the repair of the Rock River bridge in Frankfield in the parish.
His statement follows calls from residents for him to have the bridge fixed after a taxi with about 11 students on board, plunged into the river below on Wednesday.
All students of Edwin Allen High school received injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Two of the students were reported to be in critical condition .Mr. Azan says the National Works Agency is making plans to repair the bridge. He also said that the accident occurred as a result of speeding, and not due to the absence of a rail on the bridge.
