A Police Constable assigned to the Spaulding Police Station in Clarendon, who was shot and wounded yesterday (Wed) by armed robbers is recuperating in hospital.
Meanwhile, police have dismissed earlier reports that the station had come under attack by gunmen.
Reports are that about 5:30, armed robbers allegedly dressed in army fatigue robbed a store in the area.
In their bid to escape, the men who reportedly had M16 rifles, opened fire randomly, sending alarmed residents scurrying for cover.
Officers from the Spaulding station responded and the gunmen reportedly opened fire at the cops, hitting one of them in his abdomen.
The armed robbers fled the area.
The wounded cop was rushed to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He said to be in critical but stable condition.
