The National Works Agency NWA is advising motorists to use alternative routes to access locations east and west of Acadia Drive when using Barbican Road tonight (Sat) into tomorrow (Sun) morning.
NWA’s Communication and Customer Services Manager, Stephen Shaw says pipe-laying works which are to commence 9 p.m. tonight (Sat) involves trenching across Barbican Road in the vicinity of the roadway.
This, he explains, will prevent motorists from traveling directly towards Russell Heights or Grants Pen Road.
He suggests that motorists use Federal Avenue and Oakland Drive to bypass the area until work is completed at 6 a.m. tomorrow (Sun). This route is however not suited for use by operaters of large motor vehicles, including trucks and trailers.
The preliminary activities under the project to improve an additional 350-meter section of Barbican Road between Garth Road and Acadia Drive, is now 80% complete.
Physical road works are scheduled to commence in mid-April. This follows the completion last summer of upgrading works to a total of 1.1 kilometers of roadway between Jacks Hill Road and Russell Heights and a part of East Kings House Road.
The improvements up to Acadia Drive is scheduled to be completed at the end of July 2019.
