The National Water Commission, NWC says emergency contracting and procurement procedures are being used to implement an alternative interim measure to provide more water to areas impacted by the irreparable break on the 18-inch ferry transmission pipeline.

The NWC says a contractor has been engaged on an emergency basis to install approximately 1.5km of pipelines to bypass the broken pipe along ferry.

The company notes that while it has been working to fast track the construction of the two new replacement pipelines south of the new Mandela highway, some critical fittings and material have not yet been received, delaying the expected completion.
