The Health Ministry has indicated that while it’s aware that some beverage manufacturers use artificial sweeteners, this practice is not encouraged.

The Ministry was responding to concerns raised by the Opposition on the alleged use of aspartame in drinks sold at schools.

Aspartame alleged to cause serious health complications.

Speaking at a recent press briefing last month on challenges facing Monymusk, Member of Parliament for south-west Clarendon, Noel Arscott revealed that artificial sweetener was being used due to the sugary drink restrictions in schools.
