The Kingston and St. Andrew Fire department will be ramping up its public education program as the country moves into the dry season.

Already, some parts of the island are experiencing drought conditions and the forecast from the Met Service is for near normal to below normal rainfall into March, which is traditionally considered the dry season.

Superintendent in charge of the Kingston and St. Andrew Fire department Patrick Gooden says fire personnel will be visiting schools and communities to remind persons of the dangers of burning garbage and engaging in the slash and burn method, especially during the dry spell.

He added that special focus will be placed on areas that experience bushfires.
