The Opposition People’s National Party the PNP, is accusing the government and the National Water Commission NWC of failing to follow engineering advice that would have prevented thousands of citizens in the corporate area, from being without water.

According to the PNP, engineering experts had advised the government of the need to replace the 18 inch water main along the Mandela Highway, before the start of the major road works.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday (Tues), Opposition Spokesman on Water Ian Hayles said the authorities ignored the advice of the experts and this is to be blamed for the subsequent break in the pipeline and the water woes in Kingston.

Last week the NWC said work to replace the broken 18 inch water main, should be completed within another two months.
