The 2026 MTV VMAs have dropped the Best Afrobeats category, with Burna Boy and Tems earning nominations in broader genre categories.
Burna Boy received two nods for his collaboration with Shakira, while Tems is nominated in Best R&B for “Raindance” with Dave.
The move comes after Tyla won Best Afrobeats twice and Rema took the inaugural award in 2023.
The VMAs will take place on September 27 in Los Angeles, as MTV reshapes its categories and expands crossover representation.
