UHWI Adds Over 100 Beds Amid Hospital Reform Drive

The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) says it is adding more than 100 new beds as part of efforts to address concerns raised by nurses in the Accident and Emergency Department.

The nurses had staged a protest on Tuesday over issues including overcrowding, poor facilities, and faulty air conditioning, before returning to duty after meeting with management.

UHWI said it is carrying out wider reforms aimed at improving patient care, hospital operations, and accountability.

These include upgrades to infrastructure, procurement systems, and financial management, as well as plans to reopen the medical annex.
