The Jamaica Awareness Association of California (JAAC), a United States-based charitable organisation, has donated a laparoscopic tower valued at US$30,000 to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital to strengthen healthcare services in western Jamaica.

The equipment, which forms part of a wider mission providing more than US$500,000 in assistance, will enhance the hospital’s ability to perform minimally invasive surgeries and other critical procedures.

JAAC officials said the donation was prompted by the hospital’s needs following Hurricane Melissa and forms part of the organisation’s 26th annual medical mission to Jamaica.

Health officials have described the donation as transformative, noting that it will improve patient outcomes while supporting the training and development of local medical staff.
