Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey will miss his team’s World Cup opener after Canada denied his visa application while he awaits trial in London on rape charges.
FIFA confirmed he will not be able to travel to Toronto for the match against Panama.
Authorities said visa decisions are made by the host country, and Partey is expected to return to Ghana’s base camp in Rhode Island.
He will be eligible for later matches, while Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi is also reportedly facing legal proceedings ahead of the tournament.
