Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva has won her first Grand Slam title after defeating qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in the French Open final.
The 19-year-old became the youngest women’s champion since Monica Seles in 1992, when Seles won her third straight title at Roland Garros.
Andreeva broke down in celebration after sealing match point and later thanked herself for her resilience during the tournament.
She also credited her psychologist and supporters, saying she overcame nerves and “demons” throughout the two-week run in Paris.
