Iran has accused the United States of denying visas to “integral” members of its national football team’s backroom staff ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The dispute follows US confirmation that players and “necessary support staff” have been cleared to travel for Iran’s opening match in Los Angeles on June 15.
Tehran’s embassy in Turkey described the decision as “politically biased interference in sport” and called on FIFA to intervene.
The US maintains it will not allow individuals linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards to enter the country for the tournament.
