New Jersey Governor Hits Out At Fifa Over Reported $100 World Cup Train Tickets

Share

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill blames Fifa for rising transport costs for the World Cup, saying the organization should subsidize travel.

NY Transit plans special event fares for the 30-minute trip from Penn Station to MetLife Stadium, with tickets possibly exceeding $100, up from the usual $12.90. No discounts will be offered for children or seniors.

MetLife Stadium, renamed New York/New Jersey Stadium during the World Cup, will host eight matches, including an England group game and the final on July 19.

Similar fare hikes occurred at Gillette Stadium near Boston.

Sherrill has noted that taxpayers and commuters should not bear the cost, noting Fifa profits from high ticket prices.
