Russell Simmons Files $100M Lawsuit Against HBO Over Documentary Claims

Share

Russell Simmons has escalated his legal battle with HBO, filing an amended $100 million lawsuit claiming the network deliberately harmed his reputation.

He alleges that the 2020 documentary On the Record suppressed evidence that could have cleared him, including nine three-hour polygraph tests.

Warnings from Rev. Al Sharpton, civil rights leaders, and Congress about the film’s flaws were allegedly ignored.

Simmons’ attorneys say over 20 supporting witness statements were buried, while the documentary highlighted accusations of sexual misconduct he denies.

The suit claims HBO “tremendously disparaged and damaged Mr. Simmons with salacious and defamatory accusations.”
